First Image Sent Back by Comet-Hunter Rosetta Since ‘Waking Up’ From Hibernation
According to NASA, the space agency’s comet-hunter Rosetta spacecraft has sent back the first image of its destination comet since awaking from hibernation on January 20. The pictures were snapped on March 20 and 21 by the by the Optical, Spectroscopic and Infrared Remote Imaging System wide-angle camera and narrow-angle camera.
The photos were snapped when the comet hunter was approximately three million miles away from comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Additionally, the photos needed a sequence of exposures of 60 to 300 seconds.
